Additional Information about Mechanical Functions
This machine is designed mainly on the basis of this company’s flexible design of the 1st and the 2nd generation prototypes, and therefore features very strong process versatility that suffices for various materials and all work conditions. You may learn about this machine by reading the following description in combination with the section of “Operations”.
1. In embossing process, the first thing to do is flattening the film. In the entire machine, there are four adjustable areas – the winding/unwinding areas and the two tuning rollers. In actual operations, the two tuning rollers can be locked once the adjustment is done, without further regular adjustment needed in the future.
2. After the embossing roller is engaged, the peel angle between the film and the printing roller may influence the quality of embossed film and cause peeling noise. Therefore, the way in which the film is threaded in should be properly selected according to the embossing material and the embossed effect.
3. Function of the Pre-heating Unit:
To speed up embossing process, and to avoid under-heating of the printing roller.
To meet the process requirement where embossed deformation follows plastication.
When the machine is shut down, to keep the film away from the hot cylinder lest the film should be melted or badly distorted.
4. Control of Constant Tension:
In the full process, the dozen-micron thick film is subject to working conditions including heating, stretching, sticking, peeling, winding and so on. Therefore, constant tension is necessary for each section. For this series embossing machine, in order to adapt the condition of each procedure, tension is controlled on a 4-section basis, that is, the unwinding section, the pre-heating section, the traction section and the winding section, as explained below.
(1) Unwinding Section (from unwinding to pre-heating roller):
Without heating, to set the tension of this section, just set the number of points at the unwinding knob and moderately reduce this number for a few times during the embossing process.
(2) Pre-heating Section (from pre-heating roller to printing roller):
Due to the sealing, the pre-heating roller needs to be boosted by a magnetic powder clutch to start rotation. Linear speed of the pre-heating roller is a little bit higher than that of the printing roller. In actual operation, because the film is softened by heat (BOPP), it may be elongated or broken if the tension is too high, or may be enlaced due to inadequate peeling if the tension is too low. Constant tension of this section can be reached through tuning the knob by hand. Wrinkles in the film, if any, can be removed through properly reducing the force of boosting.
(3) Traction Section (from printing roller to cooling roller):
Being embossed, the film may stick on the printing plate, and so the peeling force required is normally higher than the winding force. For this reason, this machine is designed with a set of traction rollers, so as to increase the tension of this section and to keep it constant.
(4) Winding Section (from cooling roller to winding):
Due to the changing diameter of the roll, constant torque cannot sustain constant tension. This machine has perfectly addressed the issue of tension control for this section by using microprocessor closed-loop control technology, with the winding force kept constant all the time.
