To fulfill this realization we have developed an in house development of a process called “Fluorination”. It is a unique process based on the formation of Fluorocarbon barrier layer on the polymer surface which is equivalent to imparting *Teflon like properties to conventional HDPE bottles and containers. This high barrier treatment is termed as Poly Tetra Fluoro Ethylene (PTFE), and the products are called PTFE lined HDPE bottles/containers.
Bloom process is that both the inside and the outside surfaces of containers are treated which yields a double layer of protection and potential for greater barrier.
This barrier greatly reduces the permeation and scalping of a range of fuels, chemicals, solvents, flavors and fragrances. Container softening and/or swelling can be reduced in many cases and long term paneling through weight loss of product can often be brought down to an acceptable level.

Fluorination Technology:
The fluorination process is based on the formation of a fluorocarbon barrier layer on the polymer surface which will offer high barrier to containers.
The basic reaction which occurs with HDPE is a substitution of fluorine in place of hydrogen atoms on the polymer backbone as shown in figure. www.bloompackaging.com
The bulk properties of fluorine treated plastic container remains unchanged.
Fluorination is diffusion controlled process.
The fluorocarbon surface changes the characteristics of the polymer in terms of polarity, cohesive energy density, and surface tension. This in turn has a major effect in reducing the wetting, dissolution, and diffusion of non polar solvents relative to the polymer.
